take some time to wander around old montreal, it is beautiful and historic. You'll find a wide range of excellent restaurants there. Around St. Catherines Street you'll find some great night clubs with all sorts of live music. If you like smoked meat you'll find the best smoked meat sandwich money can buy at Shwartz's deli,

Driver's eight-pint shame

A MOTORIST who drank eight pints two hours before setting off has been banned for two years.
Robert Cutts, 42, of Hollins Lane, Mixenden, Halifax, admitted driving with excess alcohol at Moor End Road, Halifax on March 2.

Calderdale magistrates imposed a 12-month community order with supervision and £60 costs.

He was told he could reduce the ban by six months if he completes a drink-drive rehabilitation course by July 3 next year.

Andy Wills, prosecuting, said police found him in his car with the engine running and he told them what he had drunk. Cutts, who was not represented, said: "I am ashamed of what I have done."

While this question is beat to death, it does at least deserve an answer.

Habs is an abbreviation of "les habitants," the informal name given to the original settlers of New France, dating back to the 17th Century. So it's a natural fit for the The Montreal Canadiens, established in 1909 and marketed as a French-Canadian hockey team.

Having said that, the nickname might have been the result of an error. According to NHL.com, the first man to refer to the team as "the Habs" was Tex Rickard, owner of Madison Square Garden, in 1924. Rickard apparently told a reporter that the "H" on the Canadiens' sweaters was for "Habitants." Not true. The distinctive C-wrapped-around-H logo stands for "Club de Hockey Canadien."

Algae are vitally important to marine and fresh-water ecosystems, and most species of algae are not harmful. However, a harmful algal bloom (HAB) can occur when certain types of microscopic algae grow quickly in water, forming visible patches that may harm the health of the environment, plants, or animals. HABs can deplete the oxygen and block the sunlight that other organisms need to live, and some HAB-causing algae release toxins that are dangerous to animals and humans. HABs can occur in marine, estuarine, and fresh waters, and HABs appear to be increasing along the coastlines and in the surface waters of the United States, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Responding to this suspected increase, the U.S. Congress in 1998 passed a law that required NOAA to lead an Inter-Agency Task Force on Harmful Algal Blooms and Hypoxia, and funded research into the origins, types, and possible human health effects of HABs.
