I am coming from New York City and will be traveling on Amtrak on the Adirondack train route which takes 9 1/2 hours.
I have several questions and I’m hoping someone can help me?

(1) For 6 days, how much money should I bring with me?
(2) Can I exchange my US Dollars once I get to Canada, or do I need to do it before I leave?
(3) Is it easy to get taxis everywhere in Montreal?
(4) How is the weather in May in Montreal?
(5) What are some of the best things to do while I’m there?
(6) Are there any great free things to do while I’m there?
(7) Where is the best shopping in Montreal?
(8) What are some great restaurants?
(9) How much french should I learn before going?
(10) Is the food very different from America/NY?
(11) When taking the train and crossing the border, do customs people come on and check each persons passport?
(12) Are there restrictions on what I can bring in and out of Canada?
(13) Will be Chase VISA Debit card work in ATM’s/GAB’s in Canada? Will I be charged fees? For example: Can I pay at a restaurant or for my hotel bill using my Chase VISA Debit card?
(14) Should I get travelers checks?
(15) Where do young people 21-30 hang out?
